See Brooklyn's Spectacular Kings Theatre Before it Opens to the Public (Part 2)The Loews Kings Theatre was once a grand, sumptuous entertainment palace in the heart of Flatbush, Brooklyn. Films and vaudeville acts played there amidst its opulent interiors until it closed in 1977. It then became a rotting, dilapidated, ignored shell of its former self....until 2 years ago, when a $95 million, massive re-building began. It is now a grand, gorgeous, supremely sublime theater...and with 3200 seats, it's Brooklyn's largest. The Kings is set to re-open to the public on February 3, with Diana Ross performing the inaugural concert. Over 200 performances will play there annually, with Gladys Knight, Frankie Valli, the Moscow Ballet, Sarah McLachlan and Crosby Stills & Nash already lined up. What I loved most about the Kings Theatre are the intricate artistic details...from the Fleur de Lis symbol (a recurring theme), to the faces and designs carved into the pillars. They were a joy to discover and photograph...and are shared below.

I truly enjoyed the privilege of photographing the reborn, European-flavored theater in all its glory...from the grandiose lighted ceiling, to the intricate details carved into the pillars, to the small, deliberate reminders of the theater's past. Like Barclays Center, the Kings Theater is a gorgeous feather in Brooklyn's already marvelous cap.
Meet the NBA's kinetic Toronto RaptorsThe NBA's Toronto Raptors came to Barclays Center to play the Brooklyn Nets, in a rematch of their 7-game playoff series last year...which Brooklyn won. This season things are quite different: the Raptors are currently the 2nd best team in the Eastern Conference, with nearly twice as many wins a the struggling Nets. And it showed...shooting the Raptors was a joy, as they were happy, casual and kinetic during their pre-game warmups. And the game was highly entertaining...it went into overtime, with the Raptors clawing through 127-122.

Captured this during a photo walk hosted by 500px.com and one of my favorite photographers, Vivienne Gucwa. Great meeting and talking to Vivienne, who also signed my book of her photos, "NY through the Lens". Check out the NBA's most eclectic team, the Washington Wizards!Of all the teams visiting the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center this season, the one I was looking forward to shooting the most was the Washington Wizards. From the mohawk-ed Marcin Gortat to perennially handsome Kris Humphries to future Hall-of-Famer Paul Pierce, this is an eclectic squad of men, and one of the hottest teams in the NBA. A joy to shoot...
Rust & Blue at Coney Island...I love capturing things like decay, rust, abandoned buildings, etc. I find a strange beauty in these things, maybe because we're not supposed to find them so beautiful. So I was pleased to discover this dichotomy of rust and bright newness at Coney Island recently...
