Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose comes to Brooklyn...Because of his numerous injuries, the Chicago Bulls' superstar point guard Derrick Rose has missed most of the last 2 seasons. Which means he's never played at Barclays Center...until today. As a photographer, Rose was fun to shoot...the 2011 NBA MVP came across as unassuming yet very focused. And as you can see, ALL eyes at Barclays were on him. D-Rose played a good game (14 points in 26 minutes) in his Brooklyn debut, as the Bulls defeated the Nets 102-84.
From Ferguson to NYC (and the shutdown of the FDR)...There were many protests and demonstrations last night in reaction to officer Darren Wilson not being indicted for the murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO. There were quite a few protests in the NYC-area alone. The one I attended began in Union Square Park and migrated to the Lower East Side. From there the protesters literally SHUT DOWN the busy FDR Drive, one of NYC's largest, most-traveled roadways. The mood was peaceful...but impassioned. It was an emotional night around the country.
Strummin' at SunsetI love photographing sunsets...and musicians. I don't know this man but I thank him for being at the right place at the right time. And isn't that A LOT of what street photography is about?
Brooklyn Nets give fans a sneak peek of the upcoming seasonEvery year before the season starts, the Brooklyn Nets hold a practice and warm-up session...for the fans! It's a chance to see the newest members (and coaching staff) before the season begins, and see what goes into their practice sessions.
Brooklyn Nets vs Maccabi Electra Tel AvivThis preseason game pitted the Brooklyn Nets vs Maccabi Tel Aviv, bringing an international flavor to Brooklyn's Barclays Center. Enjoyed walking around the arena, capturing fans of Israel's team...of which there were many. Brooklyn won, 111-94.
New York Islanders vs New Jersey DevilsA couple of years ago I attended a sports photography seminar hosted by renown photographer Damian Strohmeyer. He said one of the hardest sports to shoot is HOCKEY. I learned this for myself when I photographed the New York Islanders vs New Jersey Devils at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. The action is quick and virtually non-stop. But the key to it all is keeping your camera focused on that constantly moving puck! It was quite a challenge...but lots of fun. Here are my best moments...
Black Female Photographers DayOn September 13, 2014, Black female photographers gathered in cities around the country and engaged in a photo walk. I joined the New York City contingent hosted by Zoraida Lopez at Highline Park. It was wonderful meeting women of my race and culture who shared the same passion. We walked, took pictures, shared our experiences and love for photography. We took photos of nature, of the buildings surrounding us and of course...each other. Made a few new friends along the way, including Nicole Mondestin, Wanda Lotus and Akinfe Fatou. Ms. Lopez did a fantastic job as organizer. Looking forward to more experiences with these ladies in the future!
NBA Playoffs: Brooklyn Nets vs. Toronto RaptorsThere is no atmosphere like playoff atmosphere, and the Nets and Raptors brought it in spades. A very exciting series, which the Nets eventually won in 7 games. Here are some highlights from Barclays Center, including Drake, Rhianna, and Ellen Pompeo...
